A robbery suspect who had held police at bay for four hours surrendered early Sunday after he came face to face with a police dog.

Police said Adrian Edison, 18, was asking for police help after the dog entered the EZ 7 Store at about 12:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of North Houston-Rosslyn.

Edison has been charged with aggravated robbery.

A standoff with police began about 8:30 p.m. after a robber was spotted holding a gun on a store clerk.

The clerk was able to flee out the front door, but quick-reacting police arrived before the suspect could leave through the back door, the spokesman said.

Police tried to talk Edison into coming out of the store during the four-hour SWAT scene. They said he changed his mind when officers let the dog into the store.
